SnowsportGB, the UK governing body for Ski and Snowboarding, and Hothouse Productions, the producers of Channel 4’s World Cup skiing are delighted to announce that the British Land National Ski Championships 2007 are to be broadcast on Channel 4 on 1st April 2007.

The senior championships which will take place from 24th-31st March 2007 are to be held in Meribel, France for the fourth consecutive year and the event, which will be attended by SnowsportGB’s patron HRH Earl of Wessex, is also celebrating its 29th year of sponsorship from The British Land Company Plc.

The championships will include all alpine disciplines and participating will be British Olympians Chemmy Alcott, Finlay Mickel, Alain Baxter, James Leuzinger, and Noel Baxter. Spectators will also be able to watch the leading slalom racers go head to head in a parallel slalom event to be held under the floodlights of the Meribel piste.

Commenting on the agreement, Jason Cockburn, Chief Executive of SnowsportGB states:

‘I am absolutely delighted that Channel 4 and Hothouse Productions have agreed to broadcast the championships. The event has been growing in popularity since we moved to Meribel four years ago and last year we had a record amount of entries. The television audiences for skiing have been increasing year on year and this allows us the opportunity to present to the British public the quality of ski racers we have in this country and reinforce the excitement of ski racing.’

Channel 4’s World Cup skiing which is fronted by former ski racer Nick Fellows has seen its average audience grow by 20% from last year demonstrating the public growing appetite for ski racing.
