Well the races have started! First week really hard to get back into it...its been eight months since last season! so lots of DNFs and was feeling pretty unhappy about things.
But it got better! Now on way back to Lofer from a week in Bormio (5 hour journey)...this second week has been more like it. Have made points in both SL and GS. On the two days that I didnt finish I was skiing well, just straddled. The two races that I did finish this week werent my best skiing with some mistakes on all runs but were good enough at this stage in the season. Today I had a pretty good first run and was 16th after the first run. Then on the second I was going really fast and it was feeling like it had in training...but I let the skis run for too long and got late and then caught my ski in soft snow and straddled. But overall pleased with this second week of racing.
Next week we're racing in Oberjoch, Germany 20-21.12 and then its home on the 23rd for Xmas. AND its my 19th birthday tomorrow...so spending it free skiing.
Bye for now, Sam
Didnt get to race yesterday or today as problem with GB race entries...so we're now planning for Cortina this weekend and then some races in Austria. All well otherwise ...good snow and good training!
Back in the UK. Been up to the London Ski Show spending some time with one of my sponsors 'Go Insurance'. I'm ambassador of their 'Safe Snow with Go' campaign. Its aimed at reducing accidents by young people when skiing/boarding. Will put a link here to their website for the press release.
Really pleased with how my skiing is going...was the fastest of all FIS, Dev, & Youth teams in 3 time trials. And was only 0.5 sec behind the Europa Cup boys on a one minute run.
Had a great time in Chile! brilliant training...already for the new season. Now back in Austria after a 2 week break in Churchdown, Glos.
This is La Parva, where we're staying...pretty small resort..35 kms of slope. We staying in apartments with a cook to make our food. We're still getting used to the altitude so only a few gates at the moment as even that gets us breathless. Hola I've just arrived! left home 9am Thursday arrived Santiago 6pm Friday.. local time 1pm...good to be here..and all my luggage turned up too..amazing...
Just spent a week at fitness camp in Loch Insch, nr Aviemore. Great place, even did some kayaking and wind surfing...no good at either of them...was definately made for snow not water!

Lowest GS points so far...so its a result. Finally stopped snowing. Tony says my skiing is improving so all ready for next week! Arriving in Meribel on Saturday now.
Just left Lofer for the last time. Its been snowing solid for the last 3 days. Heading off now to Spluegen for 4 races including a night slalom. Should be tough races as they're national champs. Then its to Meribel for the Brits!
Make sure you watch Channel 4 Sunday 1st April 8-9am!!! they are filming the Brits!

These races were really hard! Pleased with the first day...second day not so good. The course was just awful...slush and ruts.......these arent really the conditions for making points...but my points are going in the right direction.....now back to Lofer for a rest!
Lech today great first run...was on for a 60 but fell on 2nd run. Gutted... but at least I know its in there somewhere!
World Cup skier Kostelic was there today!
GS tomorrow with bib 87.
All going well. Had a weekend at home 2-5 March good to catch up with family and friends. Since then we've been back at Lofer, but travelling to slopes for training. Training is going very well. I feel like Im skiing differently now and its all coming together...got the fastest time in SL training yesterday. Maybe racing at Leogang 15-16.03.
Last 2 races I've dnf's 1st runs. The conditions have been crazy. At

it had been raining all the night before..and they had to put 1.5 tonnes of salt on the course. By the time I went down with a bib 122...I ended up having a spectacular crash and did 3 360s...it looked good on the video!

This last one...ruts up to my knees....again with a bib in the 130s with these conditions there isnt much chance of finishing the race if you're going for it...so straddled....
This is a race with all the top Italians in so with soft conditions and the number of racers here its hard to complete a race....will look forward to the CIT races next week!

Race start delayed by three hours due to excess snow! Highest bib out of squad at 122 ! but managed to get fastest 1st run so pleased with that. It was raining during my second run..bottom section was really messy....surprised I stayed on my feet! So really pleased that I scored an 87....even with a big mess up!
1st Feb: In Lofer at the moment. SG and GS training today. Was good fun! Feeling more confident now.

Didn’t have the best first run, made the flip tho. Attacked it 2nd run, was going really well, until straddled ¾ down. Unfortunately happens when you’re skiing on the edge. But was pleased with the way I skied the 2nd run. Attacked more. We can see the sea from here..towards

1st run Ok apart from not so confident on steep. 2nd run better, attacked steep and was a lot closer so gave me a boost. Last race in Pozza GS was 115 so pleased with the improvement.
7 & 8 Feb: Back to Lofer for 2 days off. 9th: SG training.
